Or HCL? Or LAB? Any of these are more intuitive than RGB.

What is hue zero? That’s green right? Because green is such a common color? Or maybe it’s blue.

All you're arguing is that it's easier to memorize primary and simple secondary colors in RGB. No question, it is. Once you've got one of those detent colors locked in, how do you vary it? What does it mean to bring up i% of the first channel, j% of the second, and k% of the third? That's the problem HSV solves.

It's the first color of the rainbow: Red

This could be useful for writing report card comments! Source: I'm a teacher. It's report card season. :)

My hot take: if a founder can't spin up a simple, self-hosted webform of some sort, I'm already wary of their technical skills.

Spinning it up is not the problem. You want to spend the time to throughly test it (or have your agent swarm test it) so you don’t waste the opportunity of having HN input?

I’d be wary of a founder with such bad NIH

I would hope a founder wouldn’t waste time on home-brewing their own web form when there are tons of off the shelf ones that all have no discernible difference.

It would be like writing your own email servers or calendar software. It would be a distraction at best.

I would let them do the opposite. I would make hnforms (maybe mdforms) based on the following idea.

Write a form in .md (even tell an llm to do it) and just put it online.

Only applicable if their core business is form-adjacent.

Web forms are simple like that slack notification thing is simple.

Slightly agree, however I prefer third party forms as it usually avoids a bunch of the BS with bot submissions, etc.

Great? Maybe! But this doesn't say, "We are removing Copilot from apps."

My personal opinion is "Copilot is pretty good as a chatbot [1] but don't waste your time trying anything multimodal." So I don't mind it at all, in fact I like it enough that I installed the app on my phone. I've got no interest in having it rewrite stuff for me in Word or for LinkedIn though.

On the other hand, Microsoft is famous for killing something good (like OneNote) but spamming the UI with numerous entry points that will make you think "this is some piece of crap that Microsoft is spamming because nobody in their right mind would want it." That they are getting some self-awareness of this is a good sign.

[1] I'd say Google's AI Mode gives consistently better answers (like use "vite-ignore" instead of writing a Vite plugin that doesn't work) than copilot with the reservation that if Google seems to get uncomfortable about a conversation it will end the conversation with a ten pack of search results whereas Copilot tries to simulate a person with healthy boundaries (e.g. "I will help you write a romance story but I won't help you write a sex scene")

My own anecdotal experience is that Copilot doesn't even do a good job as a chatbot. I usually only use it in a few occasions where I don't have access to ChatGPT/Claude.

And I could tell that. In one instance where I asked it to write a script that does a bunch of things, it provided a series of steps to do in the terminal. This is very off my typical experience with other chatbots. I immediately went to Claude which gave me a complete script that does exactly what I need.

What contemporary films, TV, it books scratch the same itch as "Hackers." Folks are mentioning Mr. Robot. What else?

You're employing some polarizing language yourself. Calling people "illegals" because of their immigration status demeans them. Beyond that, this language is often used to justify illegal restrictions of their civil rights. Immigrants, regardless of their legal status, have civil rights and human rights.

I noticed exactly the same thing. I don't recall which day it started (probably this past Sunday), but it was as if a switch flipped. My For You Page no longer has anything to do with my preferences. I'm familiar with Tiktok nudging me in different directions in the past, but I was always able to steer it back to videos I was interested in within 10-15 minutes. Three days later, and it's as if Tiktok not only has forgotten everything about my watch history, it also hasn't learned. That said, it doesn't seem to be entirely about politics. I had a mix of political/protest related content, native plant content, and woodworking videos on my For You Page. None of those are showing up for me.

Very similar for me as well. And yes no connection to the politics angle. It was very pronounced for me because I would like a video and then every other video it showed me was someone else’s version of it. It was very bizarre.

Apart from the alarming privacy implications of these proposed rules, I wonder how FIFA might feel about this, ahead of the World Cup. Maybe they could award Trump a privacy prize if his administration backs down from this.

We should create a committee to see if this actually has an effect. A minimum of 24 members should be sufficient. After we have a quorum, we can independently test your hypothesis and report back to the committee. Once we reach consensus, let's report back to this thread.

Ah! It's great that you've already set up the committee. Before we do any hypothesis testing, I would like us to discuss the resource consumption of

a) this committee's gatherings (especially when we have a quorum) resource allocations as related to miscellaneous consumables (e.g. paper and pencils) and

b) the overall energy usage of all our members (especially when using such tools as VPNs and dual monitors) when remote gathering and

c) the proper removal and safe disposal of the plastic water bottles (including but not limited to their caps) after an in person meeting

Barring these estimations and their precise tracing throughout the lifetime of one of our meetings, I'm afraid I'll insist on postponing any such meetings, until we'll have the possibility of performing such estimations, or a higher power decides to maybe wave some (if not all) of the above. In which case we should then proceed to propose alternative avenues towards the facilitation of such re-estimating, or re-analysis as needed.

zOMG dying laughing here

Regular HN discussion about wind vs nuclear.

Dendrochronology-based age verification is coming soon

Slow clap.

Also, there's a "rings" joke in here somewhere about Tinder not being for finding a marriage but I can't figure it out.

Maybe s/marriage/stable marriage/, then we can talk about growing population of multi-ringers.
