Libreboot -- the FSF-approved fork of Coreboot which the author is indirectly referencing -- only supports a small number of Intel Core2 systems. This microarchitecture is heavily affected by speculative execution vulnerabilities, and rejecting Intel's microcode blobs means that these vulnerabilities cannot be effectively mitigated, even partially.
