Every time "Luddites" come up in tech discussions, I notice that people have very little engagement with the history. Here's my favorite treatment of the source material: https://bsky.app/profile/ironcircuscomics.bsky.social/post/3...

Do you engage with the history of every single topic you discuss… ever?

No? Didn’t think so. Chill.

What are these people even doing.

Being called a Luddite is wrong on so many level. If anything AI user are Luddite.

They are the one that want to stop thinking about what the computer do in depth.

If you stop thinking about automation. When do you start again? What will make you create new automation, if all you can do is use what exist before.

Luddite isn't about intelligence. It's about how much you resist automation of labour.

And funnily enough AI isn’t about automation of labour, but making a bunch of C-level dunces happy.

So you know, discussing the proper use of “Luddite” is pretty much just waste of time.

This guy has an ego.

I think we should stay aimless until someone else messes up with an AI Chernobyl.

I call it The Apple strategy

TL;DR

Author got an email calling him a hypocrite (in nicer but a lot more words), and author is now looking for an audience to clap at his “nuh-uh” response.

Also a dollop of "but think of the juniors!" added in. Hypocricy in very polished words.

lol. Well, yeah, there is a bit of that isn't there?

Being Anti-AI is not being a Luddite anymore than being against taking certain vaccines makes you against medicine in general. If I like sandwiches, it doesn't mean I like ham sandwiches. The problem is people who position AI as if it is a progression toward the future, instead of a possible massive shipwreck.
