It’s not a false suggestion. It might not comport with your interpretation of the dictionary definition, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is what it means to people. That’s why it’s a narrative.

You can concoct your own meanings for things all day, but that doesn't mean Irvick was making things up as you clearly implied.
